This beautiful bicycle tour starts in Edam at the bus station on the Singel. You can park here and if you have ordered (electrical) bicycles, they are here waiting for you. This guide from Country Cycling will take you to the beautiful reclaimed land North of Edam. The guided bike tour starts in the monumental town of Edam. This beautiful Zuiderzee town packed with history and world-famous for its cheeses. The cheeses are still in warehouses to mature, and in the summer there are the cheese markets. Edam is a monument of the Dutch golden age. There are beautiful buildings, such as the Dam square, a Pearl of road and hydrological ingenuity, the former butter market or the magnificent main church. Edam is a Dutch Zuiderzee town in optima forma. Beautiful old buildings, canals, churches and charming streets.
The meaning of the word Zeevang is “caught by the sea”. This old moorland was reclaimed in the 13th century when it was surrounded by dykes and it consists of elongated grasslands with broad locks, winding old dykes and Ribbon villages. The many ‘breakthroughs’ along the IJsselmeerdyke remind us of former floods.
The beautiful bike tour leads along dykes, meadows and along the Lake ‘Markermeer’. Along the way we will stop for tea and coffee, and a little tour to a point of interest along the way. We can have lunch on one of the intermediate stops,
This tour can easily be combined with the Waterland Travel Ticket for € 10.00 or Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket from I Amsterdam. € 13.50 for 24-hours you can travel through the entire Old Amsterdam region North of Amsterdam..
